Even though we are familiar with the biblical promises which are also prophecies and recongnize tome as flowing out of the covenant the Lord made with us, we should not simply view the promise as a prediction of what the Lord is sure to do regardless of how we react to it, but rather as a promise which requires faith on our part. Basically the conent of the covenant is this: I am your God and you are My people. This promise never loses its meaning. It evens takes on an ever richer meaning for the believer. But the promise to be appropriated. When we in faith accept the promise and the salvation offered in it, we say "amen" to God's "yea" (2 Cotinthians 1:20). This is to the honour of God.
