Fred, Ted and later Ida, their friend and neighbour, leave home for fun and adventure. The boys visit their uncle Ferdinand, A sea captain, and Ida goes to a girls camp. For all of them, It was the first time away from home by themselves. An ordinary visit from the boys becomes an exciting adventure for the boys through the magic of their Uncle's personality and story telling skills. Ida's outing lacks this excitement and is deeply disappointed. She too later finds adventure and excitement. All three children learn something about home, leaving home and the power of imagination and love.
